Covey began with a quiet question: What if learning felt more like belonging—where curiosity could unfold in community, without pressure or pretense?
As homeschooling and unschooling parents, we found ourselves dreaming of a space where children could be trusted to follow their curiosity—outside, in community, without the pressures of rigid schedules or standardized expectations. We weren’t looking to recreate school. We were looking to grow something different.
Over time, that dream turned into conversations. Those conversations turned into plans. And those plans became Covey: a one-day-a-week outdoor learning community rooted in self-directed education, Agile Learning practices, and a deep respect for the land we live on.
We named it Covey as a nod to the quail—those small, alert, grounded birds who move together, attuned to one another and their surroundings. That was the kind of community we sought to build: one where everyone belonged, everyone contributed, and everyone was free to be themselves.
Every family who joined us helped shape our story. We cherished the time we spent growing, exploring, and connecting together, and we’re grateful to everyone who made Covey a place of belonging.
Covey is now paused indefinitely. We are not currently meeting or accepting enrollment, and there is no scheduled restart date. Our story and values remain, and we may gather again someday…
