Covey began with a quiet question: What if learning felt more like belonging—where curiosity could unfold in community, without pressure or pretense?
As homeschooling and unschooling parents, we found ourselves dreaming of a space where children could be trusted to follow their curiosity—outside, in community, without the pressures of rigid schedules or standardized expectations. We weren’t looking to recreate school. We were looking to grow something different.
Over time, that dream turned into conversations. Those conversations turned into plans. And now, Covey is becoming a reality: a one-day-a-week outdoor learning community rooted in self-directed education, Agile Learning practices, and a deep respect for the land we live on.
We named it Covey as a nod to the quail—those small, alert, grounded birds who move together, attuned to one another and their surroundings. That’s the kind of community we’re trying to build: one where everyone belongs, everyone contributes, and everyone is free to be themselves.
Our story is still unfolding, and it’s shaped by every family who joins us. Whether you’re brand new to unschooling or have been walking this path for years, there’s room for you here. We hope Covey can be a place where your child—and your family—can grow, connect, and feel truly at home.
